FAQ

I want to host a game server and advertise it in the community. Is that allowed?

It depends.

Are you hosting a server for the purpose of making friends and socializing exclusively in the GamerPals community? We allow that with considerations and prior approval from the moderation team:

  • Conduct in and about the game server must adhere to all GamerPals rules.
  • The server must be free to join and play on for all community members. Bans from any game server must be discussed with moderators prior.
  • Any monetization of the server (e.g. donations, paid ranks, etc.) must be approved by moderators prior.
  • The game server must not be named to imply any official affiliation with GamerPals. This includes server names, server hostnames, and in-game clans/groups.

Please contact the moderators to discuss your plans before proceeding.

We do not allow advertising of game servers that are primarily intended for purposes outside of the GamerPals community. This includes, but is not limited to, servers intended for competitive play, large public communities, or any other purpose where making friends in GamerPals is not the main focus.

Can I advertise my stream?

We allow active community members to have their streams automatically reposted to the #now-streaming channel via our bot. What constitutes an “active community member” is at the discretion of the moderation team, but usually means having participated in the community in some capacity.

Moderators may remove members from the system as a matter of housekeeping for inactive members or members that violate community rules.

Important

For our automatic notifications to work, you will need to have your Twitch connected to Discord with permissions turned on, as well as your Discord Activity Privacy set to be visible in all servers.

I lost access to the #new-pals channel. Can access be restored?

The #new-pals channel is a private channel exclusively for new people. Usually we remove access automatically after 48 hours, but we may adjust this.

We permit members with the greeter role access to the #new-pals channel indefinitely, so that they can participate in welcoming and helping new members find their way around.

Some common things new users might be looking for that greeters can help with:

  • Looking for certain games - can direct to #game-threads or #find-a-thread (to find or create a new game thread) - in these threads people can run /lfg now and it will add them to the #looking-now-feed - this is GamerPals’ built in LFG system built by one of our admins.
  • How to find people to talk to - can direct them to #introductions to post about themself or to have a scroll and look for others to talk to, direct them to the chats or side quests channels, or the #event-threads to find group events they can participate in.

If you would like to gain the greeter role, please contact the moderators.
